Here at DFS, finding your sleep thing is that much easier with our mattress collection. Whether you’re looking for pressure relieving memory foam or movement isolating pocket springs, we’ve got you covered.
Which mattresses are the softest?
Looking for a mattress that feels like a cloud? Go for a memory foam mattress, like our Silentnight 2000 Pocket Memory Cool Pillowtop Mattress. The foam-based support moulds nicely to your sleep position to evenly distribute weight, supporting any areas of your body that need it.
Or, if you’re someone who’s always tossing and turning in your sleep, a pocket sprung mattress like our Silentnight 3000 Pocket Ultragel Boxtop Medium Firm Mattress could be your thing. The spring-based support system helps reduce movement across the bed, while remaining sumptuously soft and supportive.
“Memory foam is a great option if you’re looking for that sink-in, cocooned feeling. It adapts to your body shape, helping to relieve pressure points and create a more personalised sleep experience,” - Rachel Nimz Taylor, Bedroom Senior Buyer at DFS
Which mattresses are the firmest?
For sleepers who prefer a firmer feel, we recommend firm and extra firm mattresses with strong structural support to keep the surface stable and evenly balanced. Reinforced spring systems or layered designs like our Flex Ultra Firm Sustainably Made Sprung Mattress help the mattress maintain its shape under pressure.
Looking for a mattress that’s still supportive, but delivers that cloud-like comfort? Hybrid mattresses offer the best of both worlds, combining supportive spring coils with plush foam comfort layer
Open coil mattresses like our Silentnight Eco Ortho Mattress offer a more traditional and affordable option, using interconnected springs to deliver a consistent level of support across the mattress.
How long does a mattress last?
Even the perfect mattress can’t last forever. Making sure you don’t keep a mattress past its best years can make a big difference to the quality of your sleep and how you feel when you wake up in the morning.
On average, replacing your mattress every six to eight years helps maintain better sleep hygiene and ensures your body is properly supported throughout the night.
That said, not all mattresses age at the same pace. Memory foam mattresses like our Silentnight 1000 Pocket Memory Cool Mattress, for example, respond slowly to pressure, helping it hold its shape for much longer than traditional options.
For a good rule of thumb, check out the manufacturer's guarantees on our mattresses. Depending on the brand and model, our mattresses can come with anything from a 2 to 10 year guarantee, giving you peace of mind your investment will stand the test of time, night after night and year after year.
What are the signs my mattress needs replacing?
Often, you don’t immediately notice when it’s time for a new mattress.
You might find yourself waking up sore or stiff for no obvious reason or tossing and turning as you try to get comfortable. Some people notice they actually sleep better somewhere else, like in a hotel bed or on the sofa. For others, allergies begin acting up more often, or the bed suddenly feels too hot one night and too cold the next.
Other telltale signs that it’s time for a change include any creaking, dipping or simply when your mattress no longer feels right.
How can you make a mattress last longer?
Making your mattress last longer comes down to a combination of choosing well and taking proper care of it.
For example, rotating your mattress every 3 to 6 months (and turning it, if your mattress is suitable for this) helps distribute weight more evenly across the surface long-term, preventing certain areas from wearing down faster than others. Using a good quality mattress protector, like our Silentnight Airmax 1000 Mattress Topper, can also extend its lifespan by shielding it from spills, dust, and everyday wear.
Hygiene plays an important role as well. To clean your mattress, sweep away any dust and debris, then treat stains by gently dabbing some mild detergent mixed with water onto the area with a clean cloth. Try not to soak the mattress, as excess moisture can damage it.
“Simple care habits like rotating your mattress and using a protector can make a big difference over time, helping to preserve both comfort and support.” - Paul Freeman, Head of Service Manager.
