We had a good chat with Baljinder Bhurjee (also known as Burj), one of our Regional Managers, about the unstoppable energy that powers our commitment to make a positive impact on the communities that we live in.

Hey there, Burj…

Hello yourselves, I’m really proud of the journey we’ve gone through when it comes to our charity work so I’m thrilled to talk all about it!

So, making it simple, we have four different ways for you to get involved:

Fundraising and furniture donations for Children In Need

With DFS having been proud partners with the charity since 2013, we’re now bringing everyone together across the wider DFS Group to support BBC Children in Need, helping children and young people living in furniture poverty. We’re dedicating our fundraising and furniture donations to the BBC CIN Emergency Essentials programme, which delivers home essentials like sofas, beds, tables & chairs, and white goods to families living in crisis.

Matched Giving

This scheme allows colleagues to have their funds matched up to £300/€300* for any money they raise for a charity. It doesn’t matter if it’s for a sky dive or a bake sale - we want to support the causes that matter most to colleagues.

Volunteering

Volunteering can touch people’s lives in the most fantastic ways and can go a long way towards making a positive impact on your local community. We offer all DFS colleagues the opportunity to take 1 paid volunteering day each year.

Give me 5

‘Give me Five’ is our in-store prize draw, where customers donate £5 to be in with a chance of winning the cost of their order for free.

Why is DFS such a big supporter of BBC Children in Need?

DFS places great value on charity, and the BBC Children in Need relationship is an integral part of this. We're always reviewing our partnership too, and figuring out ways to have even more impact.

Having been proud partners with the charity since 2013, raising over £8million to support a range of causes and initiatives - now we're taking our support to the next level. We're tackling a problem we know best; making a house a home, for the children and families living in furniture poverty.

Going forward, we’re dedicating our fundraising and furniture donations to the BBC CIN Emergency Essentials programme which delivers home essentials like sofas, beds, tables & chairs, and white goods to families living in crisis.

I’ve got to say it really does make me so proud to work at DFS, and even more proud of our people!

Thanks for taking the time to chat with us, Burj. We’ve loved getting the lowdown on all the incredible things you’re involved in!
