How to create the perfect football room to watch the new season unfold
After a week of build-up, speculation, and ‘debates’ with friends and family, is there anything quite like settling in for a packed weekend of watching the beautiful game?
Well, we want to take your footy watching experience to the next level, with some ideas on how to create an immersive football room that’ll get you closer to the action - and be the envy of all your mates.
From choosing an uber-cool colour scheme, to adding seating that the pundits on Match of The Day would be jealous of, our football room décor tips will have you more excited than ever to be counting down to kick off.
Let’s jump right in…
1. Clear out the clutter
The best way to kick off your football-themed room renovation is to give it a quick tidy-up, and get rid of any clutter that is messing with the vibe.
Now, we know this isn’t the most exciting way to start your sport-inspired renovation - and we might be sounding a bit like your mum - but hear us out!
After all, when you’re settling in for a Super Sunday, the last thing you want is to be distracted by a forgotten pile of washing or errant empty glasses. So, start by tidying up your soon-to-be football room, finding new homes for clean (or dirty - we won’t tell) laundry, wiping down surfaces, and returning plates and cutlery to the kitchen.
You can also take the opportunity to organise the contents of your football room. For example, if your treasured Mundial mags are often strewn across the coffee table, find a more suitable place to proudly display your collection, such as in a bookcase. And those signed shirts or posters you’ve been meaning to frame? They’d be much happier on the wall, so get them hung up ASAP.
In general, the best approach for the coolest football room décor is to go for a clean and minimal look, letting you focus properly on all the action of the match in front of you.
2. Choose the ‘right’ colour scheme
With your burgeoning football-themed room nice and tidy, you’ve got a blank canvas to create the perfect atmosphere for those tense moments and elated celebrations. This is where choosing a colour scheme comes into play!
And we know what you’re thinking: this is the perfect opportunity to showcase your club’s colours. Well, honestly - we couldn’t agree more!
Whether you’re looking to bring the blue and yellow of Elland Road or want to add Arsenal’s famous red and white, letting your club’s colours direct your football room décor is a great way to stamp your personality on the space, and show your dedication to your team. Just pick out a few elements of your football-themed room – a sofa, a feature wall, a rug – and drench the décor with your club of choice.
Alternatively, if you wish to be more mindful of your guests’ allegiances, then you can opt for a more neutral colour scheme too. In particular, a grey design offers a classic and sleek finish for your football room décor. But if you can’t go all-out on supporting your club in your own home - when can you?!
3. Prioritise comfortable seating
Do you perch precariously or stand steadfast during the glorious game? Well, while comfort may not be a big concern when supporting your own team, those with a more neutral stance on the footy will want to properly relax. A much more comfortable seat is one of the bonuses of watching the game from home, after all!
Looking for a throne to bring your football room to life? You need a Cinesound sofa. This state-of-the-art sofa is absolutely brimming with features that add to the immersion of watching the footy!
4. Pick the perfect placement for your TV
With the seating sorted, you can turn your attention to the next most important part of your football-themed room: the television.
Now, we will leave the decision about which telly to buy up to you (our expertise is décor, after all!), but we do have some ideas on where to place the TV. For starters, you’ll want to find a position in your football room where the middle of the screen aligns with your eye-level when seated. This means you may need to experiment slightly, testing out which spots and angles work best with your Cinesound sofa.
As such, we’d recommend investing in a TV stand, rather than committing to mounting on the wall. That’s because, with a TV stand, you have more flexibility in where to place your sofa – and you can easily switch around your football room set-up, if you want a change.
5. Ensure there’s plenty of room for snacks
We’re almost finished with your football room décor, you’re so close to kicking off the season in style. All that’s left is to add plenty of space for snacks and drinks – somewhere to place the nuts, crisps, and chocolate that keeps you going for 90 minutes.
For those solo Saturdays glued to the unfolding action, think about adding a lamp table next to your sofa. These provide the perfect place to set down your bowl of nuts, while also offering somewhere for a lamp for when the sun goes down.
