The "Giving Back" Framework

With over 4,700 colleagues across our group, our community has the power to make real change for those in need. Through our “Giving Back” framework, we not only support our charity partners, we empower our colleagues to dedicate time and energy to support causes close to their hearts, and supercharge their efforts through our Matched Giving scheme.

How “Giving Back” works

Three simple steps to furnishing better lives, together through charity & community:

1. We give our furniture:

To create comfortable spaces for those in furniture poverty

2. We raise funds:

For our Group charity partners, and enable Matched Giving for colleagues to give to charities close to their hearts

3. We give our time:

Every colleague has one paid day a year to volunteer for a charity or community initiative

Our amazing volunteers

With over 4,700 colleagues across the DFS Group, it’s no surprise that we use our paid Volunteering Days and Matched Giving initiative in a huge variety of ways, to support a huge variety of causes! Here are just a few of the stories, told in our volunteer’s own words…

Phillip Ayres - Production Team Leader,  Lincoln House Factory

“I volunteered for an activity day for underprivileged children run by Derbyshire County Council. The children are taken to a local activity centre where they take part in lots of activities. including den building, go karting and river walking. The river walking is definitely a favourite amongst the kids - they love getting wet and muddy! I’m very proud to be able to volunteer and give the children such a wonderful opportunity with some truly magical moments.”

Jay San Antonio - Retail Sales Advisor, Shrewsbury

“I volunteered for Samaritan’s Purse - Operation Christmas Child, an appeal they do every Christmas, where people donate shoe boxes filled with toys, gifts and essential items to send to children across the world. I first started supporting this charity by packing shoe boxes myself at home, and I now volunteer at the processing centre every year! I love volunteering for this charity and seeing videos of the children receiving the gifts is just amazing.”

Trevor Harris - Service Upholsterer, Hove

“I completed a 2300 mile cycle ride around France, Italy and Spain to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society, in memory of my mother who suffered from vascular dementia.

She had wonderful care in her last few months so this was my way of helping other dementia sufferers to have the same. With DFS Matched Giving, I raised over £1400!”

Kirsty Middlemore - Sales Advisor, Sheffield Store

“I took part in the Yorkshire 3 Peaks to raise money for Sheffield Children’s Hospital, a charity close to my heart as they have recently given our friend's little girl life saving treatment. It took me and a group of friends over 12 hours to finish the challenge - on one of the wettest days of the year. I’m incredibly proud of raising over £900 and was delighted to receive an extra £300 through the DFS Matched Giving Scheme!”
