Where should I keep my dressing table in my house?

Most people choose to keep their dressing table in their bedroom, often near a window, which makes a great spot to get ready in the mornings. Of course, this isn’t the only place you could keep your vanity table - they also work well in a dedicated dressing room, or even a walk-in wardrobe. Other options include creating a dressing table area in your home office, or even in an unused spot in a hallway or on a landing. You can also keep your dressing table in the bathroom, but prolonged exposure to changes in temperature and moisture can affect the lifespan of both a wooden dressing table, and the cosmetics and beauty products you store within it.

What is the difference between a vanity table and a dressing table?

The terms vanity table and dressing table tend to be used interchangeably, but there are actually differences between the two. The main difference is that a vanity unit includes at least one mirror, while a dressing table is usually larger and comes with more storage, like drawers. Of course, you can easily add a dressing table mirror to any dressing table by purchasing a freestanding tabletop mirror or mounting a wall mirror above it.

What size are dressing tables?

Dressing tables come in lots of sizes, so there’s a style perfect for every bedroom! Our small dressing tables measure from just 60cm across, so they’re great for compact bedrooms or even small walk-in wardrobes. If you have space to spare, you can consider a large vanity with mirror, like a traditional double pedestal dressing table, which measure around 150cm wide. Don’t forget you also need to make sure you have space for a dressing table chair - or dressing table stool - to sit on while getting ready.

How do you fit a dressing table in a small bedroom?

If you want to fit a dressing table in a small bedroom, your best bet is to go for a small dressing table, or even a dressing table set with a stool, which is designed to be functional but compact. A dressing table with drawers is a great option for tidying away clutter, which can easily overpower a small bedroom, and a white dressing table will help to reflect light, making the room feel bigger. If you really don’t have the footprint for a dedicated dressing table, why not consider mounting a wall mirror above a chest of drawers as a multipurpose alternative? You’ll still have a dedicated space for getting ready, but with the added bonus of additional storage for clothes or linens.
