Chesterfield sofas
A Chesterfield sofa is one of the most well-known and easily recognisable antique sofa styles. Dating as far back as the mid-1700s, defined by their large scroll arms - which are the same height as the back - round, turned wood feet, and distinctive, deep buttoning; Chesterfield sofas are traditionally upholstered in dark leathers (although today you can buy one in almost any shade of leather or fabric you desire) and often have a lower seat height.
Tuxedo sofas
If you like the vibe of a Chesterfield sofa but would like something with a sleeker, squarer look - then a Tuxedo sofa might just be your thing. Like a Chesterfield, a Tuxedo sofa has arms that are the same height as the back, but feature a more modern, square arm, a slimmer profile, and can be found with or without buttoning or tufting detail.
Lawson style sofa
The Lawson style sofa is much loved, because this traditional sofa is simplified, more comfortable and more modern than some of the ornate Victorian style sofas. This sofa style is characterised by the distinctive Lawson arm, which is a more minimalist version of the traditional scroll arm, and usually has large back cushions and a taller back - but beyond that, there’s plenty of room for interpretation. A tailored or ruffled skirt offers a more country cottage look, while Lawson style sofas with exposed feet lean more minimalist.
