Is there anything better than slipping between your sheets, pulling the blanket right up to your chin, and sliding smoothly into a deep sleep?
However, even with the best will in the world - getting that good night’s sleep is not always as easy as you’d like it to be. Whether it’s worrying about daily stresses that’s keeping you up, your brain going a million miles an hour at bedtime, or a disruptive shift pattern at work; catching those full zzz’s can sometimes feel impossible.
But don’t worry, we’ve got a fun (and more likely to work) alternative to counting sheep that’s backed by psychologists: brainteasers!
That’s right, according to Dr Meg Arroll, a chartered psychologist, a brainteaser before bed can soothe your mind from the everyday stresses and help you fall asleep:
“The human brain has a cognitive capacity. In other words, there’s a limit to how many things we can focus on at once - and this include daily stressors and concerns. That’s why occupying the mind before bed with a brainteaser can be an excellent way to switch off a buzzing brain. When the brainteaser is just tricky enough, it will use a large proportion of conscious cognitive capacity and distract from worries that can keep us up at night. Brainteasers also improve cognitive function and memory and lead to a sense of mastery, all of which contribute to psychological wellbeing.”
See if you can find all four of the beds hidden within this peaceful dreamscape. Good luck!
Think you’ve spotted them all? Well, why not double your odds and share with your partner, or keep things exciting with some friendly competition and ask your friends and family to give it a go?
