Measuring for your sofa can feel a little daunting – but we go the extra mile to make sure your perfect sofa fits just right. From useful tips and our handy room planner so you can design your space to our expert delivery team, we’ll make sure it all comes together on the big day.

Will it fit through the door?

Measure your doorways, hallway and room of delivery at the narrowest point and compare with height and depth of the sofa ,making sure there is enough space inside and outside to manoeuvre the length of the furniture through that space. It can be useful to cut out a paper or card template to see if the product dimensions will fit through your space and your doors.

Remember that when you rotate or tilt your sofa around doorways or ceilings it will require more space.

Doorways

Doorways

Measure the height and width of all the doorways that you will be moving through to make sure that the sofa will fit through them. The most common internal door size is 198cm high and 76cm wide.

Rotation

Rotation

Remember that as you rotate the sofa it can require more space. The diagonal measurement is really important as this determines how much space is required when rotating.

Tilt

Tilt

As you tilt the sofa it will be slightly taller that when sitting flat. Its important to be aware of any ceilings or doorway that you could catch.

Will it fit in my room

Your first step is to look at the room where you plan to put your sofa. Decide where it’s going and if any doors or radiators will get in the way.

Width

Width

It’s important to note both the width (the measurement across the back of the sofa) and the depth (the measurement from the back of the sofa, to the front).

Depth

Depth

Take note of the depth of the sofa if you’re buying for a smaller room, as the depth of the seat rarely changes from the larger to smaller size sofas

Height

Height

Consider the height of the sofa, particularly if your room has radiators or shelving.

One tip for making sure that your sofa will fit in your space is to cut out the shape of your sofa from newspaper and place it on the floor in the room. This allows you to check that you have enough space to walk around it with ease and that you’ve left enough room for shelves, radiators and other pieces of furniture, as well as the opening of cupboards, doors and windows.

Have you measured the length, width and depth of the new furniture (as detailed in the dimensions on the product page)?

Have you checked the height and width of the doorways, hallways and other access points into the roman property?
