A Morning Person type means that you are more of a morning than an evening person. You wake up relatively early and as a result, you go to bed relatively early too.
A Morning Person sleep chronotype often benefits from having some alone time first thing in the morning before everyone else wakes up, so take advantage of this undisturbed ‘me time’ to do one task you enjoy and that sets you up for a positive day. This could be cooking breakfast, exercising, or writing out your to do list.
As an early riser, you may not feel the need for a coffee when you first wake up - for you, 9am to 10am is a good time for that first cup. Your most productive time is likely to be between 10am and 12pm, and you may find you do your best or most creative work during this time window.
3pm to 5pm is where your energy dips, so try to spend it doing lighter or more administrative tasks and perhaps reach for a herbal or decaffeinated tea. Avoid caffeine after 2pm, as it may interfere with your sleep - especially as you tend to go to bed earlier rather than later!
Family and relaxation time is from 7 - 9pm and if your friends are looking to go out with you in the evening, getting back for around 9pm is ideal for when you’ll naturally start to feel tired and start winding down. Begin your bedtime routine and aim to be asleep by between 10pm and 11pm to get your 7 to 9 hours of shut eye before your natural waking time the next day.
As a Morning Person, you might consider creating a bedroom that’s vibrant and light in colour, one that embraces the morning and makes the most of your preference for the morning hours and your energy at the start of the day.
You may consider a colourful and lighter palette that will make the most of any natural light in the morning. Try injecting your favourite vibrant colour as an accent to give the overall look a lift and shot of energy.
We spend one third of our lives sleeping, so it’s important to select the right type of mattress for your comfort preferences, and also a bed that you’re going to love waking up in. If you’re a relatively early riser who likes to spend a little time relaxing in bed before actually getting up, consider investing in a bed you love to lie on in the morning listening to a guided morning meditation or breathing exercise.
Think about how you like to use your bedroom during that valuable ‘me time’ in the morning and style the space to suit. For example, you might like to place an accent chair by a window, where you can sit down and meditate in the mornings. Or, if you’re a fan of journaling or planning, ensure that there is a dressing table or occasional table within reach, so that you can sit and jot down your thoughts at the start of the day.
Our circadian rhythm is governed by the light and darkness that we get so having proper lighting in our bedrooms is key. For moderate morning types who like to go to bed reasonably early, we want to get and keep our rooms dark in the evening time, so putting on a soft, subtle light from a bedside lamp - and shutting off overhead lighting - is a good way to keep your room dark for sleep.
Choose a positive scent to encourage morning energy! If you have a diffuser, choose a sweet and uplifting scent such as grapefruit which is reported to increase focus, lift your mood, and relieve stress by promoting brightness and positive energy.
