Is it cheaper to make or buy a bookshelf?

It might seem cheaper at first glance to build your own bookshelf - but by the time you’ve bought the tools, materials and spent the time designing and making the bookshelf, you might not have saved too much! If you’re a confident woodworker who would love the challenge of building your own bookshelf, we say go for it - but if you’d like the ease of a ready-made bookshelf, maybe check out our range of flat packed and ready-assembled bookcases instead…!

What is the difference between bookcase and bookshelf?

The two terms are often used interchangeably, but bookcases and bookshelves actually have different meanings. Generally, a bookshelf is more of an open design, while a bookcase usually has solid sides and back, sometimes with doors covering part or all of the unit. Both are great options for storing books and decorative accessories, and it will ultimately depend on the look you prefer in your space.

How do you display books in a small space?

To make the most of your small space when storing books, it’s best to use as much of the height as possible. A tall, slim and open bookshelf is ideal for this, as it provides lots of storage space without compromising the flow of light. Its also best to keep your books tidy and organised, as clutter will be overwhelming in a small space. Our bookshelves can hold more than just books: they can easily be decorated with decorations, ornaments and vases. This makes them ideal for bedroom furniture or dining furniture too!
