“I’m originally from Bangladesh and currently work in the DFS Galway Ireland branch over the last 2 years. I joined DFS as a welcome host, I was previously working as a Turkish Kebab Chef and Pizza Chef and was studying Accounting but I never finished which I regret, but since I joined DFS, I don’t regret it anymore.
I was recommended for this role through one of my old friends. When I went for the interview my manager offered me a welcome host job as there wasn’t a sales position. I’ll be honest, I was doubting myself whether to take the job or not. Then I started thinking I don’t have any experience in furniture sales, so I decided to take a Welcome Host job so I can prove to myself that I can do sales.
I asked my manager Alan what I needed to do to get into sales and he gave me some advice, along with advising me to finish some great learning modules on our Learning Hub. I completed them within 1 week and I was soon talking to customers about sofas. There were lots of new things I needed to figure out, which initially wasn’t easy. Alan helped me alot and I was constantly asking him lots of questions, it started to become less questions.
In October 2021, I came back from a holiday and was asked to step up and look after the Cork DFS store. I worked very hard to look after the branch and I also achieved a Level of Excellence with Distinction. In June 2022, I was promoted to Senior Sales. Now I’m working as Assistant Branch Manager. I like training new starter’s which not only helps them, it also helps me keep increasing my own knowledge.
The whole reason I’m giving everything in so much detail, is maybe this story could impact on someone that nothing is impossible. Without any experience in selling, if I can do it then anyone can do it. We only need to have desire and willingness to become successful.
My journey is not finished here and I know I will work harder so I can be better. I strongly believe there is no end to knowledge and success. “
