DFS and The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

DFS is proud to be supporting The Duke of Edinburgh's Award as its Patron, Prince Philip, celebrates his 91st birthday this year.

Helping young people unlock their potential

Helping young people unlock their potential

As a leading youth charity, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award transforms lives, equipping young people with the skills they need for the future. For those struggling to get a job, it can make all the difference. By completing their own programme of volunteering, getting fit, learning new skills, and undertaking an expedition, young people gain recognition for their personal achievement. But that's not all; The Duke of Edinburgh's Award unlocks individual potential for a brighter future.

"The Duke of Edinburgh's Award exists for all young people… The purpose of the DofE is to help young people gain experience of some of the most rewarding opportunities available to adults in their non-working lives."

Life-changing stories

Life-changing stories

Aswad used to spend his spare time playing computer games or hanging out on the streets with friends at night, until he was introduced to his local DofE group.

He hasn't looked back, and is now qualified in leadership, first aid and fitness. He works with younger groups on expeditions and has helped his siblings and friends achieve their DofE Awards.

"I was doing nothing useful, or anything that was benefiting the community but the DofE has helped me to work in the community as well as getting a job. Ever since my first taste of the outdoors I have become addicted."

"The Duke of Edinburgh Award gives young people the opportunity to reach their potential and develop into confident adults, while giving back to their communities and learning new skills. As a keen triathlete and skier, I know how important and rewarding it is to have an active life. We are delighted to be working with the charity and look forward to forging strong links between DFS and the DofE, making the most of all it has to offer."

Something for everyone

"I am proud to say that I received my Gold Award from HRH The Duke of Edinburgh himself in Buckingham Palace. It was quite some time ago but the memories are still strong - I remember every single step of a hair-raising expedition in the Cairngorms! There is something in the DofE for everyone."

Skills for life

"The DofE gives all young people that take part a great head start in life. The skills they learn can help them get on in life and they get to put something back into their local communities."
