Statement scale

Lighting is a necessity (especially with our changeable British weather) - so why not make it a feature? This trend is all about oversized, unexpected scale in lighting; from futuristic sputnik ceiling lights to chunky table lamps, these are designed to make a statement. Keep any lampshades, visible lightbulbs or co-ordinating accessories minimal - it’s all about the scale, here.

Rustic rattan

A lighting trend that’s been on the rise for the last few years, featured heavily in mid-century and biophilic interior styling, and definitely isn’t going anywhere - is rattan lampshades and lamps. The warm wood tones of this material, combined with the tactile effect of the woven technique, acts as a natural diffuser for lightbulbs, making it an ideal trend for lighting. A style rooted in the 60s and 70s, it’s brought up to date with a more geometric woven pattern, and works equally well across table lamps, floor lamps, and ceiling pendant lights. Looking for something more modern? Grey-toned rattan is becoming more popular - this more contemporary twist on the classic rustic look works well with cooler toned spaces.

Angular minimalism

Stripped back, monochrome and futuristic - this sleek statement trend will certainly turn heads in your home. Made up of straight lines, simple shapes and angular elements, this trend is ideal for ultra-modern spaces, and adds a grown-up (but still fun) vibe to games rooms, home offices and living spaces.

Blown glass

Blown glass is a classic material for lighting, but the glass we’re seeing in 2023 is a little different than the usual - large, bulbous pendants, statement see-through lamp bases, and organic, abstract shapes are all making waves in this category. This trend creates a gorgeous glow like no other, and with an increasing number of colours to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice for your home.

Modern industrial

You might be thinking, “This isn’t a new trend?” And yes - you’d be right! But we thought it was worth including here, as the industrial lighting trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Often mixing brass and black iron with wooden details, this style doesn’t hide the electrical components away - rather, it’s more likely to make a feature of bulbs and bases as part of the design. This trend works across the style spectrum, and looks equally good in modern, minimal homes or cosy, traditional spaces. Maybe that’s why it’s so popular?
